2022 Home Improvement Trends

Somehow…someway… we are about to begin 2022 and everyone is looking to make this year better than the last. A lot of starting 2022 on the right track, is updating the exterior of your home. That’s where we come in. We are sharing home improvement trends for 2022, tips, and of course the team to get the job done!

Siding Trends in 2022

We are seeing color trends carrying over from 2021 into 2022 with greys and blues. The most popular colors currently are Midnight Blue, Pacific Blue, Charcoal Gray, and Sterling Gray, through CertainTeed restoration classic siding. Something to keep in mind is that there are different companies who supply their own lines of siding, and although a color may be called, “Charcoal Gray”, each company will have a slightly different color with the same name. The same can be said about the quality of the materials that differ per company, so be sure to consult with a siding expert. Thankfully, we carry CertainTeed which is one of the best siding product providers with a variation of siding lines available.

Windows Trends in 2022

Let’s talk about window trends! Double-hung windows that slide up and down are here to stay as the most popular window option in 2022. Also, white vinyl in and outs are still very popular and the most modern option. Both top and bottom sashes that can either be opened from the top or bottom are a great safety option for families in multiple-story homes. These windows contain safety locks that allow you to open the top sash where young children cannot reach. These windows are also great for those who always wanted clean windows but didn’t want to take off screens or just simply couldn’t reach all corners of the window. These window sashes have an easy tilt in and out feature that allows for easy cleaning and access.

If you are looking for something a little different aesthetically but like the original functionality of vinyl windows, you have the option of wood windows or alum-clad windows with different color options as well as vinyl-coated windows to have the wood grain look on the inside of the window.

Roof Trends in 2022

The most common roof material used on residential homes has been asphalt shingles, weather wood shingles, and colonial slate. We predict these popular roof material options are not going anywhere anytime soon and will continue into 2022. If you are looking at how to style your home with these materials here are a couple of things to consider. You want the shingles of the roof and the siding to mesh well with one another. The CobbleStone Gray shingle is a basic grey that is universal with pretty much any color but looks best with gray and blue sidings.

Depending on the color of your siding, you may need to take more time into picking out a good color combination so that they don’t clash. Don’t worry! You are not alone on this, one of our home improvement experts will be there to guide you. Just to get you thinking, a great trick is to use a shingle option with a mix of colors to offer a wide range of siding colors that will match well. For example, your darker browns, mixtures of browns and blacks, browns and grays, or grays and blacks, etc.

Time to Accessorize!

We are seeing a trend of getting back into the lighter color standard siding with more of a dark and bold accent such as Sterling Gray horizontal siding with a charcoal dark grey cedar shake siding for the gable ends. Also, we are seeing white trim wrapping with white mantels or white decorative posts in the front breezeway or porch ways. These styles are giving off more of a modern look that has been very popular in 2021 and will continue into 2022.

Exteriors Expert Tips:

 1) Your first step towards a refreshed look for your home is getting the financing together. Lead times can be long for both the finance process and the construction process. You want to be able to jump on the process as soon as possible to get in the lineup, for the industry is experiencing long wait times with many people looking to renovate.

2) Have an idea of the color line family you’re interested in and we can guide you as to what is available. We have a talented design team who can give professional advice as to adding other accents and decorations to your project to add a little “pop” to your home.
